PROTECTION

All children and young persons entering the Home are entitled to receive counseling as a requirement to be registered as a Panamanian citizen, even if they do not have identification and they will be protected from social risks that caused their entrance to Malambo. The Sub-Program of Protection includes these aspects.

ACTIONS

Ensure that the boys and girls who enter the Home will receive the psychological attention considering their specific needs.

Interviews of beneficiaries older than a year when entering the Home to open psychological clinical files.

Application of psychotherapeutic resources, and whenever necessary, refer to specialists.

Implementation of training groups in neuro-linguistic programming, mood control, therapies for the treatment of stress, motor and cognitive skills.

Training to advisors who take care of the beneficiaries.

Inform the authorities of social risk situations in which the beneficiaries find themselves:

Denouncement made before the competent authorities by the legal counselor of the Home

Follow-up on cases in the Courts of Childhood and Adolescence and at the MIDES.

Visits to families of the beneficiaries.

Accomplish the civil registration of beneficiaries who have no legal name.

With the help of the Court of the Children and Adolescents, MIDES, Hospitals and Health Centers to learn the identity of the beneficiary.

With the Electoral Tribunal and the Social Worker of the Home.

Support from the Ombudsman Office.

Prevention of Child Abuse

The San Jose Malambo Orphanage will implement this Program in 2009 as a contribution to cover the need for recognizing and managing abuse in the girls, boys and teenagers.
It will work the problem of child abuse in different sectors to raise awareness in the communities and engage each one in finding Solutions.

The Program will execute the following components:
* Home and School staff

Seminars to the staff directly serving children and adolescents.

Seminars for educators and administrators.
* Officials of institutions dealing with cases of abused children and adolescents.

Seminars preventing abuse.

Delivery of prevention data.
* Students and guardians

Training.
* Research

Design of training material and literature.

Training.

Directory of entities

Workshop to create a recognition system of child abuse.

At the end of the year, we will have helped persons to recognize signs when a child or adolescent has been a victim of abuse, both at home as well as at school or institution of protection.
